First Time to Ghana

Everything you need to know before your Ghana trip — visas, health, transfers, and practical details. We handle the logistics so you can focus on the adventure.

Before you fly

Visa

Most nationalities need an e-visa (~$60, 5 business days). Apply online at ghana.gov.gh with your passport, photo, yellow fever certificate, booking confirmation, and return ticket. ECOWAS citizens are exempt.

We provide all supporting documents for your application — just let us know once you've booked.

Yellow Fever

A yellow fever vaccination is mandatory for entry into Ghana. You must carry the original certificate — no certificate means no entry. Get vaccinated at least 10 days before departure.

Also recommended: Hepatitis A and Typhoid. Consult your travel doctor 4–6 weeks before departure.

Malaria Prevention

Ghana is a malaria zone. We recommend Malarone (atovaquone/proguanil) — consult your travel doctor. If unavailable, COARTEM is sold in every local pharmacy for ~5 EUR. Bring DEET-based repellent (30%+).

All rooms have mosquito nets, window screens, and the grounds are regularly fumigated.

Getting here

Fly into Kotoka International Airport (ACC) in Accra. We arrange a private pickup — your driver meets you at arrivals with a name sign. The scenic coastal drive to Elmina takes about 3 hours. Air-conditioned vehicles with bottled water provided.

Good to know

Currency & Money

The local currency is the Ghana Cedi (GHS). The resort accepts card payments (Visa/Mastercard, processed in GHS), USD cash, and mobile money (MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash). ATMs are available in Elmina and Cape Coast. Tipping is appreciated but not required — 10% in restaurants, $5–10 for guides.

Internet & SIM

Free WiFi at 25+ Mbps throughout the resort — rooms, restaurant, and pool area. For mobile data, grab an MTN or Vodafone SIM at the airport (~5 GHS, 5 GB for ~$5). Register with your passport. WhatsApp calling is the preferred communication method in Ghana.

Payments at the Resort

We accept cash (USD or GHS), card payments (Visa/Mastercard), and mobile money. Card transactions are processed in GHS — USD prices on the website are indicative. A $100 refundable security deposit is required at booking.

Packing Essentials

SPF 50+ sunscreen (hard to find locally), DEET repellent, UK type-G power adapter, comfortable walking shoes, swimwear, a light rain jacket for wet season (April–July), and modest clothing for village visits and religious sites.

Food & Water

Drink bottled water only — complimentary bottles in your room daily. Ice at the resort is safe (filtered water). Our restaurant caters to vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets. Breakfast is included with all stays. Let us know your dietary requirements when booking.

Safety

Ghana is one of the safest countries in West Africa, with 30+ years of stable democracy. The resort has 24-hour security, safes in every room, and well-lit grounds. Use common sense with valuables and stick to recommended drivers for transport.

We handle the logistics — you enjoy the journey.
