Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary is a community-run forest sanctuary in the Volta Region where mona monkeys are regarded as sacred. During a guided walk through the forest, you can see, feed, and even touch the approximately 700 monkeys that call this place home. The sanctuary is a renowned example of traditional conservation, with a wide variety of tree species, birds, and animals. It pairs perfectly as a stop on the way back from Wli Waterfalls.

What to expect on your trip

Morning

Depart from Volta Region

Best combined with a Wli Waterfalls trip. Drive from your Volta accommodation to Tafi Atome.

Mid-Morning

Guided Forest Walk

Enter the sanctuary with a local guide. Walk through the forest as monkeys swing between the trees above you.

Late Morning

Feed & Interact with Monkeys

The mona monkeys are friendly and sacred to the community. Feed them bananas and watch them come remarkably close.

Afternoon

Continue to Accra

After lunch, continue south. You should arrive at Accra airport by approximately 4:00 PM, or return to Lemon Beach.
